MIKS MITREVICS (LV)

"I borrowed a saying from my friend Harald who says that he makes his exhibitions as poetry in the space (*1). The poetry I do is about the life that surrounds me. About that mundane material that forms the joys and the sorrows, the personal and the social, the naive and the conceptual, the knowledge and the faith.

By following this process both the artwork and the artist are being formed. This poetry does not provide readily available answers. It is more like an endless stream of notes on the side of paper. They are written in a hope that at some moment they shall create a new ground for already known and self-evident knowledge.

My working method is to recurrently try to make a gesture, to raise doubts and to challenge the foregoing. I look for possibilities to discover and capture myself unaware. It is a work towards something that could alter the existing conditions, so that the conversation would not be doomed by a looped predictability but would become a game itself.

"Today Jack Whitten said that everything was getting more complicated by the day and that the only chance to deal with it was to stare right into the eyes of this mad universe and dance."
